HipotézisHypothesis
A gond a költségbecslés és a hangolás, nem a stratégiaThe problem is the cost estimate and the tuning, not the strategy
1. A spread rosszul becsült1. The spread is mis-estimated
A bajnokság tick-alapú becsléssel számolt. Ha a valódi spread kisebb, több stratégia nyerővé válhat.
The tournament used a tick-based estimate. If the real spread is smaller, more strategies might turn positive.
2. Az ORB-nek több idő kell2. ORB needs a longer history
Egy év egyetlen piaci szakasz. A tanulmány 2016–2023-ra közölt eredményét a saját időszakán kell visszamérni.
One year is a single market regime. The paper's 2016–2023 result has to be re-measured over its own period.
3. Jobb beállítások léteznek3. Better settings exist
A Gap and Go, az ORB és a hónapforduló javított változatai túlélik a szigorú, félretett adaton végzett tesztet.
Improved versions of Gap and Go, ORB and the turn of the month survive a strict test on held-out data.
Mit és hogyan csináltunkWhat we did
Valódi ajánlatok, nyolc év, szigorú tesztReal quotes, eight years, a strict test
Félretett adat: minden jelöltnél kijelöltünk egy időszakot, amelyhez a hangolás közben nem nyúltunk. A Gap and Go-nál ez 2026.
Held-out data: for each candidate we set aside a period that was never touched during tuning: April–September 2026 for Gap and Go, 2022–2026 for the turn of the month, and the 2025–26 year for ORB. Parameters were chosen on the rest only, and the held-out period was looked at once, at the end. For ORB we also ran a walk-forward test: the best variant of the previous two years was carried into the next year.

KövetkeztetésConclusion
Az előny ott van, ahol a legdrágább kereskedniThe edge sits where trading is most expensive
- Az ORB előnye valódi. Nyolc éven át kijön, és a félretett évben is, ha a végrehajtás szinte ingyenes.
- A valódi spread egy nagyságrenddel nagyobb. A hírre mozgó részvények épp a nyitáskor, az előny idején a legdrágábbak.
- A szigorú teszt mindent kiszűrt.
Otthoni brókerrel a nyitáskor nincs.
- The ORB edge is real. It holds over eight years and in the held-out year, if execution is nearly free.
- The real spread is an order of magnitude larger. News-driven stocks are most expensive exactly at the open, when the edge appears.
- The strict test filtered out everything. Whatever looked like a winner after tuning vanished on held-out data.
- Look-ahead is the sneakiest error. A measurement taken a few minutes later was enough for the backtest to show a Sharpe of 3.
With institutional execution (direct market access, fills inside the spread) ORB might make sense. With a retail broker at the open it doesn't.
KorlátokLimitations
- A spreadet napi kilenc 20 másodperces ablakban mértük, a belépések a legközelebbi ablak értékét kapták. A valós pillanatnyi spread ettől eltérhet.
- A 2016–2023-as időszakra csak 40 véletlen napon mértünk spreadet, a teljes 8 évre a becsléssel számoltunk.
- A kivezetett részvények benne vannak, de a kölcsönözhetőséget a múltra nem ismerjük, ezért ott minden short engedélyezett.
- Minden eredmény szimuláció képzeletbeli pénzzel. Nem befektetési tanács.
- Spreads were measured in nine 20-second windows per day, and each trade used the nearest window. The real instantaneous spread may differ.
- For 2016–2023 spreads were measured on 40 random days only; the full eight years used the estimate.
- Delisted stocks are included, but historical borrowability is unknown, so all shorts were allowed there.
- All results are simulations with paper money. Not investment advice.
